Brown Bagging It
by Katy

I saw a billboard today that promoted saving money by bringing your lunch to work. Now, this is an easy way to save money, but it’s also so difficult. Part of the reason? It’s fun to go out to lunch with co-workers. It’s the one hour during the day where you get to leave a cubicle or an office, get some fresh air, and if you live in a sunny part of the world, like I do, soak up some Vitamin D! It’s also easy to just walk to a restaurant, plop down some money or even easier to swipe a card, and enjoy a big meal. I also love not having to make a lunch either the night before or the morning of. I want to get that extra 15 minutes of sleep and not make a sandwich or pack up my dinner from the night before. So my question is…why and how do YOU do it? I need help! Anyone have any tips, inspirations, or easier, fun ways they bring their lunch to work? Please send them my way so I can live up to one of my New Year’s resolutions. Oh wait…I didn’t really make a list this year…so do I really have to do this?

Pack that lunch, girlfriend! As fun as it is to go out for lunch, it is a cash drain. Partner up with some of your friends to brown bag it and go to a park or something for lunch. It’s fun, you get some sunshine on your nose, and your still get to visit with friends.

I used to pack all the time when I worked. Mainly bc when you work 4am-noon, and you don’t get to leave to go anywhere for lunch, you have no choice. I really enjoyed it. I got to where I’d actually look forward to eating my PB&J and fruit or leftovers from the night before. I think I went to lunch like once my entire career…I was filling in on another shift or something…and man it was odd. I felt like I was skipping school or something…lol. The food you eat when you pack it, Katy, will be tastier bc you know you’re saving $$$ and nothing tastes as good as a good deal. xoxo

You could always find a partner that enjoys packing a lunch for you. Go grocery shopping on the weekend and that can be the way you pitch in. Have the guy to the daily packing, and presto – money saved.
